Knife-Wielding Man’s Friday the 13th Rampage: Hempstead Resident Arrested for Menacing Police at NYU Langone Hospital

Officers received multiple calls from NYU Langone Hospital, located at 259 1st Street, for a man threatening employees with a knife.

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for Menacing a Police Officer which occurred on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 2:50 a.m. in Mineola.
 
According to Detectives, Officers received multiple calls from NYU Langone Hospital, located at 259 1st Street, for a man threatening employees with a knife.
 
Upon Police arrival, Officers encountered Martin McCarthy, 49, of 57 Stewart Avenue, who was pointing a knife at hospital staff. Officers immediately attempted to deescalate the situation and gave defendant McCarthy an opportunity to drop the knife. Defendant McCarthy began pointing the knife at the Officers on scene and they used an Electronic Control Device (Taser) to disarm the defendant.
 
He was placed under arrest, but continued to be violent and combative while resisting arrest.
 
Defendant McCarthy is charged with three counts of Menacing 2nd Degree, Criminal  Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, and two counts of Menacing a Police Officer. He will be arraigned on Saturday, October 13, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
