Bellmore Man Arrested for Assault Following Auto Accident

A Bellmore man was arrested after an auto accident. He became combative and tried to flee when officers attempted to document the incident. Officers used a taser to subdue him.

The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Bellmore man for an Assault that occurred on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 3:50 PM in Bellmore.
 
According to detectives, the Defendant Charles Klimovich, 63, was involved in an auto accident in the vicinity of Bellmore Avenue and Merrick Road. When officers on the scene attempted to obtain his information to document the accident, he refused, became combative and attempted to flee the scene. As officers were attempting to place the defendant under arrest, he continued to resist and refused to comply with the officer’s commands. Officers utilized their Electronic Control Device (ECD), taser and Defendant Klimovich was subdued and placed under arrest.
 
One officer sustained injuries to his elbow and both knees during the course of the arrest. The injured officer was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
 
The Defendant Charles Klimovich is charged with Assault 2 nd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2 nd Degree and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
