Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, alongside other local officials and Signature Aviation’s Chief Operating Officer Brad Williams, will officially break ground today on an ambitious $48 million development project at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach. This new fixed-base operator project is set to transform the aviation facilities and services offered at Gabreski, a Suffolk County-owned general aviation airport located just three miles north of downtown Westhampton Beach.
The development will span a substantial 13-acre area and includes the construction of two expansive 31,250-square-foot aircraft hangars, a new terminal office building, a dedicated aircraft parking apron, and a modern fuel facility. These additions will not only enhance the airport’s operational capacity but will also provide advanced services and expanded space for aircraft operating within the region.
As Suffolk County's primary general aviation hub, Gabreski Airport has long served as both a civil and military airport, offering critical aviation support and services to the region. This new project is anticipated to increase the airport’s role in the area’s aviation industry, offering more opportunities for private and commercial aviation.
According to Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, "This development marks a significant investment in the future of Gabreski Airport and Suffolk County’s aviation infrastructure. With these new facilities, Gabreski will be able to offer state-of-the-art amenities to aircraft operators, attract new business to the area, and support the region’s growing aviation needs.”
Brad Williams, COO of Signature Aviation, echoed Romaine’s enthusiasm, stating that the project represents an exciting partnership with Suffolk County and a commitment to enhancing aviation opportunities in Long Island.
