C.W. Post and Suffolk County Community College Establish Nursing Program Partnership
Brookville, N.Y. -- The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and Suffolk County Community College have established a new partnership that will allow SCCC students who complete the Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing to seamlessly transfer with junior status into the Bachelor of Science degree program in Nursing at the C.W. Post Campus.
The agreement, signed in April and effective in the Fall 2011 semester, included the signatures of Dr. David Steinberg, president of Long Island University; Dr. Jeffrey Kane, vice president of academic affairs of Long Island University; Dr. MaryAnn Clark, dean of the School of Health Professions and Nursing at C.W. Post; Dr. Shaun L. McKay, president of Suffolk County Community College and Dr. William Connors, Jr., vice president for academic affairs at SCCC.
Transfer students will be accepted into the C.W. Post School of Health Professions and Nursing program based upon current admission requirements and will be automatically eligible for transfer scholarships, depending on their cumulative grade point average at SCCC. Automatic transfer scholarships range in value from $8,000 to $16,000 per year for full-time enrollment.
Freshman students at Suffolk County Community College may enter C.W. Post as part of C.W. Post/Suffolk County Community College Joint Admissions Program. Joint Admission students receive specific C.W. Post campus privileges while attending Suffolk County Community College and, upon completion of the associate's degree, are awarded automatic Joint Admission Scholarships, with values varying according to the Suffolk County Community College cumulative grade point average.
The School of Health Professions and Nursing offers bachelor's degrees in nursing (for students who are RNs), social work, nutrition, radiologic technology, clinical laboratory sciences, biomedical technology, forensic science and health information management, and master's degrees in advanced practice nursing/clinical nurse specialist, family nurse practitioner, nursing education, nutrition, social work, medical biology, clinical laboratory management and cardiovascular perfusion. The School maintains collaborative educational programs, off-campus degree programs, internships and practica at a number of New York metro area health care institutions, notably North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and New York University Medical Center.
The C.W. Post Campus, located on 307 picturesque acres in northern Nassau County, includes the School of Health Professions and Nursing, the College of Liberal Arts and Science, the College of Education and Information Sciences, the College of Management and the School of Visual and Performing Arts. One of six campuses of Long Island University, C.W. Post educates 8,700 undergraduate and graduate students.
