This Month is “Movember” - Time to Grow that Mustache

Written by Eric Anderson  |  01. November 2014

This month, you may start to notice an unusual number of people growing out their mustaches. Why, you ask? November is known as “Movember,” and it’s time for all men to grow out their mustaches to raise awareness for men’s health issues.

The Movember movement is a legitimate charity organization that has raised $559 million, funding over 800 programs in 21 countries, according their website.

Men participating in the challenge will be shaving their “Mos” (also known as mustaches) today, November 1. They will then grow out and groom their mustaches throughout the month, asking friends, family and co-workers to donate to the cause, and sparking conversation regarding various men’s health issues.

The movement isn’t only for men. Many women have joined to raise money and awareness as well - they just don’t grow a mustache. Click here for information on how to join.

The movement first began in 2003 in Australia. Over four million men and women have participated in Movember worldwide.

At the end of the month, there are even several events that participants can attend to show off their Mos. On November 29, members can attend a gala party at Irving Plaza in New York City. It’s only $10 to attend the event, however members that raise over $100 will get a free ticket, and members that raise over $200 will get two free tickets.

Don’t forget to wear a costume to the gala. Awards for best mustaches will be given out as well.
