Homeless Man Arrested for Attempted Murder and Burglary in Hicksville: Brave Victims Subdue Attacker

The Second Squad reports the arrest of a homeless man for a Burglary that occurred in Hicksville on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 5:07 am.
 
According to detectives, Second Precinct police responded to a West Cherry Avenue residence for a Burglary in Progress. Upon arrival, Second Precinct police observed the defendant Alberto Garcia, 35 no known address inside the residence A subsequent investigation revealed that defendant Garcia entered the residence through an unlocked living room window and proceeded to the kitchen area in which he grabbed a red kitchen knife.
 
Defendant Garcia then made his way to a basement bedroom and confronted a 24-year-old male victim, a 34-year-old female victim and a 10-year-old female victim. The defendant then lunged at the male victim while swinging the red kitchen knife causing a laceration to his right thumb.
 
The victim was able to throw a blanket onto the defendant and tackle the defendant to the ground and holing him until police arrived. The male victim was transported to a local hospital in a Nassau County Police ambulance and treated for his injuries. The
defendant was also transported to a nearby local hospital for a medical evaluation.
 
There were no other injuries reported. The knife was recovered at the scene.
 
Defendant Alberto Garcia is being charged with Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, two counts Burglary 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Garcia will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, November 6, 2023.
