The Nassau County Department of Senior Affairs offers a wealth of information, resources and many government assisted programs. According to their reports close to 20% of the residents in Nassau County New York are seniors.
Sometimes it becomes difficult to care for an aging loved one who has become disabled or unable to do certain tasks by themselves any more. This is a heavy decision for many families to make as to who becomes the primary caregiver. Often times it is necessary to seek outside help. If budget is also a consideration, knowing what resources are available may lift some of the burden, making the choices a little bit easier.
Department-funded, adult day service programs are designed for frail elderly persons who require the assistance of a specialized staff. All programs provide respite for caregivers, and some offer additional services depending on the program.
