AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT SUNDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: Nassau, Suffolk, from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Restaurants and retailers throughout Long Island are honoring our nation’s heroes with discounts and freebies this Veterans Day and throughout the weekend.

In honor of Veterans Day, many Long Island restaurants and retailers are thanking our nation’s heroes for their service and sacrifices with discounts and freebies. Active duty military, veterans, reservists, and military families may be eligible for savings on everything from food to fashion.

Applebee’s - All veterans and active duty military members can receive a free entree on Veterans Day, November 11th. Since 2008, the restaurant chain has served 10.8 million free meals to neighborhood military heroes.

 

Chili’s - Chili’s shows its gratitude to America’s veterans and active duty military members by offering them a free Veterans Day meal at all participating Chili's Grill & Bar restaurants. Available for in-restaurant only. Select menu. Call ahead to your local Chili's restaurant with any questions.

 

IHOP - Red, white, and blue pancakes are on the house for veterans and active duty military on Friday, November 11 from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

 

Kohl’s - Kohl’s honors active and former military personnel, veterans, and their immediate families with 30% off in stores Veterans Day weekend—Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov, 13—with a valid military ID.

Red Lobster - Red Lobster thanks veterans, active-duty military, and reservists for their service, by offering guests a free Walt's Favorite Shrimp, Fries, and Coleslaw. Offer is available for dine-in and To Go orders placed in-restaurant between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, November 11. Guests need to show a valid military ID or proof of service to redeem offer.

TGI Fridays - From 11 a.m. - 2 p.m on November 11, veterans and active duty military personnel can receive a free dine-in lunch from a select menu at participating locations.
