Tragic Shooting in Mastic: Investigation Underway as Homicide Squad Probes Man's Death

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are probing the shooting death of 45-year-old Umar Elquhir in Mastic, with an investigation ongoing and an appeal for information from the public.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man that occurred in Mastic last night.
 
Seventh Precinct officers responded to 195 Poospatuck Lane at 9:27 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a man had been shot. When officers arrived, they discovered Umar Elquhir outside the home with a gunshot wound.
 
Elquhir, 45, of North Bellport, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.
