Gilgo State Park CLOSURE – Sand Replenishment
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation would like to advise that effective Monday, November 18, 2024, Gilgo State Park, a 4-wheel drive access-only park, will close for sand replenishment.
The park will remain closed while the United States Army Corps of Engineers, NY District, places 1.25 million cubic yards of sand from the Fire Island Inlet onto the shoreline of Gilgo State Park, within the Town of Babylon.
The work is part of the Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point project, whose objective is to reduce risks associated with coastal storm damage along the Atlantic coast of Long Island, covering the shoreline from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point.
Work is anticipated to continue through the winter into the spring of 2025.
