One of the best things about Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, is that you don't have to be a big-time gambler to enjoy the experience.
Mohegan Sun is a resort that you'd be well suited to travel to solely for the restaurants, which involve varied dining experiences, all of them excellent.
Starting with fine dining, one of the top restaurants you'll find on the East Coast is Todd English's Tuscany. Just entering beneath an indoor waterfall gives you the feeling that this will be something special. One of the country's most famous chefs, Todd English brings the flovors of Italy to the Connecticut woods, with a special flair that features such dishes as Butternut Ravioli, Potato Gnocchi and Tuscan Chicken.
Another favorite dining place, for steak lovers, is Michael Jordan's, a contemporary steakhouse featuring prime steaks and chops, and an award winning wine list.
For those who prefer Asian cuisine, Bamboo Forest is another winner, with such delectable entrees as Mongolian Lamb with Curry Sauce and Peking Duck.
The Longhouse offers Black Angus beef, poultry and seafood in a rustic setting.
It's noted for its Maine lobster Bisque, Porterhouse Steak, Lemon-Herb Roasted Chicken, and Pan Seared Salmon.
For me, the creme de la creme is the Sunday brunch at Pompeii and Caesar,
which offers a never-ending array of delicacies. Just the Baby Lanb Chops are worth the entrance fee alone.
There are also some casual restaurants that offer a great dining experience as well. Among them are the new Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in the recently opened Casino of the Wind; Jasper White's Summer Shack and Oyster Bar;
Johnny Rockets Original Hamburgers; Big Bubba's BBQ; The Dubliner Irish Pub; and Birches Bar and Grill.
For those of you who think that going to a casino isn't complete without a buffet, there are two at Mohegan Sun, the Seasons and the Sunburst. And for those of you with a craving for sweets, you can even savor Krispy Kreme Donuts and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream.
After all of this eating, you're going to need some exercise, and at Mohegan Sun you'll have plenty of options, be it golf, swimming, or pushing yourself away from the gaming tables.
