Roosevelt Man Arrested for Possessing Loaded Firearm in Baldwin After Police Chase

Ryan Horton was arrested in Baldwin for possessing a loaded firearm and resisting arrest after fleeing from police during a traffic stop.

The First Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for Criminal Possession of a Loaded Firearm that occurred in Baldwin on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 1:39am.
 
According to detectives, First Precinct police observed the defendant operate a 2018 Mercedes that was speeding and pass thru a red traffic light while travelling north on Grand Avenue. First Precinct police activated their emergency lights and conducted a NYS Vehicular Traffic Law stop on Grand Avenue at the intersection of Grand Terrace Avenue. During the investigation police observed a handgun in the defendant’s waistband.
 
First Precinct police then attempted to place the Defendant Ryan Horton, 29 of 115 West Fulton Avenue into handcuffs for safety and remove the gun. Defendant Horton became combative and violent preventing First Precinct Officers from placing the defendant into the handcuffs. Defendant Horton then fled the scene on foot southbound Grand Avenue while holding his waistband.
 
First Precinct police on foot were able to stop and place the defendant in the lot of 1320 Grand Avenue after a brief struggle. A black loaded handgun was recovered at the scene after defendant Horton tried sticking it in a nearby fence in order to hide the gun.
 
There were no injuries reported. There were no other occupants traveling with the Defendant.
 
Defendant Horton is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration and Resisting Arrest. He will  be arraigned on Monday, November 20, 2023 at First District Court in Hempstead.
