Three People Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint

The Suffolk County Police Department arrested three motorists during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue.
 
Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway SAFE-T Team (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team) conducted a sobriety checkpoint operation at Waverly Plaza, located at 371 North Service Road, from 11 p.m. last night until 2 a.m. today.
 
The checkpoint was part of an ongoing Thanksgiving holiday enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug impaired driving. A total of 377 vehicles went through the checkpoint.
 
The following people were charged with Driving While Intoxicated:
 
• Jessica Vanegas, 39, of Bay Shore
• Kasian Kader Masthan, 37, of Deer Park
• Jeffrey Sanchez Alvarenga, 23, of Brentwood
 
The arrestees will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 28.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
