Warm Winter Drinks for the Whole Family
With the holidays coming up, there will be plenty of cocktails going around as family and friends get together. But let’s not forget that not everyone drinks alcohol - not to mention the fact that the kids will certainly not being enjoying cocktails with the adults!
So if you’re looking to make some great warm winter drinks this holiday season and throughout the winter, here are some recipes that go beyond the usual hot chocolate:
Mulled Apple Cider
Ingredients: 2 quarts apple cider, 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 orange cut into thin slices, 2 tablespoons honey
Directions: Place all ingredients in a saucepan and let simmer for 5-10 minutes.
Candy Cane Hot Chocolate
Ingredients: 4 cups milk, 1 ounce chopped semi-sweet chocolate, 4 crushed candy canes, 4 whole candy canes.
Directions: Heat milk until hot, do not boil. Add chocolate and crushed candy canes until smooth. Serve with whole candy canes as stirrers, add whipped cream if desires.
Peanut Buttercup Hot Chocolate
Ingredients: Instant hot chocolate, 3 teaspoons creamy peanut butter, whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles.
Directions: Simply add peanut butter to instant hot chocolate. Top with whipped cream and garnish with chocolate sprinkles.
Chocolate Cappuccino
Ingredients: 1/2 up whipping cream, 3 tablespoons powdered sugar, 1/2 chopped chocolate (milk chocolate or semisweet), 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy, 8 cups espresso or strong coffee.
Directions: Beat whipping cream and sugar on low speed with electric mixer until soft peaks form. Mix peppermint and chocolate with coffee/espresso. Top with whipped cream and serve immediately.
Eggnog Cafe Latte
Ingredients: 3 slightly beaten eggs, 2 cups whole milk, 1 cup whipping cream, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon instant espresso, cinnamon (optional).
Directions: In a large saucepan, stir eggs, milk, whipping cream, honey and espresso. Stir often over medium heat - do not boil - for about 25 minutes until mixture will coat a spoon. Serve while hot, add cinnamon and whipped cream if desired.
