Authorities in Nassau County are actively seeking information regarding a disturbing incident in which a dog was discovered with 17 stab wounds. The Nassau County SPCA has announced a $5,000 reward for any leads resulting in the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this violent act against the animal.
In November, a Freeport woman found a two-year-old male terrier mix bleeding from stab wounds. She brought the pup to the animal shelter Bobbi and the Strays, but the facility lacked the necessary resources to properly treat the severely injured dog. The dog was then taken to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter and subsequently transferred to a Farmingdale animal hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and received care.
Named "Cornell" by the town animal shelter, the dog has successfully recovered. He will be placed in a foster home before being made available for adoption. Meanwhile, Nassau County officials continue their search for the person responsible for this act of animal cruelty. The public is urged to call the DA's Animal Crimes Hotline at 516-571-7755 with any tips.
