Bridgehampton is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Southampton on the South Fork of Long Island in Suffolk County, New York. Residents of the hamlet are served by the Bridgehampton Central School District.
Southampton was founded in 1640, and from that time settlers began moving ever west. The area was known by the Shinnecock indians as Sagaponack. Settlers established a site near Sagg Pong, called Bullhead, and it was later renamed Bridgehampton, after a bridge, connecting Sagaponack and Mecox, that was built in 1686 by Ezekiel Sandford. Bridgehampton is known for the Hampton Classic horse show and the prominent American automobile racing course.
According to the 2010 census, Bridgehampton has a population of 1,398. The median household income in Bridgehampton is $81,048.
