Back in the 1920s, when the men of Creek Club no longer wanted to share their golf course with their wives, they set out to build the ladies their own Women’s National Golf and Tennis Courts. The course was planned by Marion Hollins and created by Devereux Emmet. However, tennis was given the most focus and when the club re-opened after the Depression, golf was no longer being played here. In the late 40s, the original Creek Club was purchased by the Soundview Country Club at Great Neck Estates and renamed Glen Head Country Club. It is a formidable, older-style golf course that measures 6,600 yards from its longest tees and has a par value of 71, a rating of 71.7 and a slope of 129. PGA Championships have been hosted at this 18-hole private club. A new Pro shop was added in 2007. The facility offers an indoor driving range with three bays, a short game practice area with multi-level greens and sand bunkers, on-site instructional opportunities, a women’s card room and full dining and drinking accommodations. This exciting course is open year-round, weather permitting.
