Just 30 minutes from Manhattan, this 18-hole private golf course is easily accessible to golfers from the big city. The layout is the creation of Herbert Strong, Hal C.Purdy and Francis J. Duane, with some more recent modifications in the mid-90s by Tom Doak. The improved course measures 6,647 yards from its longest tees and has a par value of 72, a rating of 73.1 and a slope of 131. Extremely tight fairways are ruler-straight and lined with trees. Bunkers and mounds abound. There is even a steeplechase hazard. The layout follows both parkland and coastal terrain. In addition to the excellent but challenging course, members and guests may use the driving range, 10 Har-Tru tennis courts, beach club area with both ocean and pool swimming, state-of-the-art fitness center/spa and dining facilities at the clubhouse. It’s not surprising that Inwood has hosted several PGA championships. It has also been cited by the NY Times as “one of the 15 best courses on Long Island.”
