The Historical Society of Port Jefferson, founded in 1967, drives to discover, preserve, and spread the historical knowledge of the Greater Port Jefferson area. The Society maintains the Mather Museum Complex which includes the Mather House and six other buildings house artifacts from bygone eras. Public meetings are held through the year as are annual fundraising auctions in the Autumn and an Antiques and Garden Show an Sale in the Spring. Photographs and documents are available for research through appointment.
