Republic Airport occupies over 500 acres of East Farmingdale land and began its operation in 1928. During its early years Republic Airport was used to test aircrafts made by Fairchild, American, Grumman and Seversky. In 1966, Republic became a general aviation airport and in more recently has been used as a reliever facility. A two-story terminal building on site serves passengers boarding charter flights to Atlantic City and other short distance destinations while the Main Terminal holds many public aviation related events. Republic Airport is home to The American Air Power Museum and the Long Island Republic Airport Historical Society.
