80’s vs. 90’s Camp

Ahh the 80’s. Such an interesting time. Music was being introduced to a new form of electronic entertainment that incorporated synth/dance/techno as a forefront with such notable acts like Michael Jackson & Prince. While all of that was happening, there was still an underground Punk uproar happening that would soar into the 90’s. Grunge is a sub-genre of alternative rock that emerged during the mid-1980s, but really gained momentum in the 90’s, with acts such as Green Day, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. Inspired by punk and heavy metal, grunge is generally characterized by heavily distorted electric guitars, contrasting song dynamics, "growling" vocals and apathetic or angst-filled lyrics. This camp is going to have these respectable, yet different decades clash to put together an unforgettable set list for the ages!

Our Rock Rookies Camp is focused on making the first
steps of a young student’s journey both fun and
successful. The days of mundane music instruction are
over. At School of Rock Farmingdale, we believe that
playing music together is the only real path to mastering
an instrument and developing a true love for music. We
focus our instruction on the one instrument that students
have chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales,
chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in
context so students understand how the principles they
learn are applied to real music. Using some of the
world’s most famous songs and infusing fun into every
chord, Rock Rookies allows students to enhance their
skills and move on to our Performance Program.
