Share the Voice is a 501c3 charitable organization started by a group of women who believe in providing all children with an excellent quality of life, healthy exercise and positive socialization experiences. Not every child can ride a typical 2 or 3 wheeled bicycle due to their physical and/or mental impairments; but every child should be given the opportunity to as riding a bike has always been a childhood rite of passage. Adaptive tricycles are made with varying accessories to fit each individual child's needs.
While the cost of a typical tricycle may be around $100, these special trikes built with trunk control support, headrests, pulley chain systems, and special handlebars, can range from $1,500 to over $5,000. Through community fundraisers, corporate support and community grants, Share the Voice has been able to purchase and give adaptive tricycles to 25 children so far with many more qualified applicants on their wait list.
An additional program, Little Voices, teaches children in schools, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and other organizations about disability awareness and the benefits of fundraising. This helps bring together children from all neighborhoods, schools, abilities and backgrounds. Parents and children across Long Island have come together for this great cause. Please contact Share the Voice anytime for more information about applying for a tricycle, participating in Little Voices, or to make a donation.
