The Townsend Society of America was founded in 1962 and aims to collect and preserve historical material pertaining to the Townsend brothers - John, Henry, and Richard - three 17th century settlers of Long Island and their descendants. The Society has since expanded its research to include all settlers named Townsend and all Townsend-related history.
