Centereach is a hamlet and census-designated place on the North Shore of Long Island in the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, Long Island. Residents of Centereach are served by the Middle Country Central School District, the Sachem School District and the Three Village Central School District.
First called West Middle Island, Centereach was actually known as New Village until the early 20th century. The name Centereach was chosen when it was discovered that a name in Upstate New York already had the name New Village. The name indicates the centrality of the hamlets location on Long Island. Dawn Estates and Eastwood Village were the first suburbs in the area, built in the 1950s.
According to the 2010 census, Centereach has a population of 29,189. The median household income is listed as 89,019.
