Pet adoption resources?

09 May, 2012 4:13 p.m.

My neighbor has two lovely little dogs, a 4 year old tan and white shitzu and a 4 year old white Maltese mix. They adopted them from a rescue organization who saved them from puppy mills. They are sweet, spunky and playful. His wife has recently fallen ill. She is not doing well and is currently confined to a hospital bed in the ICU. As much as it breaks his heart, he simply can no longer care for them.

Are there any reputable, local rescue groups who he could contact to try to place them in a good home? Have any of you found a good way to get the word out about adopting doggies locally or on community boards, etc?

I am trying to help him out if at all possible, as he has already approached me to take them and I cannot. Good ideas are very welcome! Thanks!

The rescue that they came from may take them back if he cannot keep them.
Or check out this page with a bunch of local rescue groups....
but don't bring them to a shelter or they may be put down unnecessarily. :(
