AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Deadly Auto Accident in Freeport

Police report that a pedestrian was killed early Wednesday morning.

Freeport, NY - January 1, 2014 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Serious Vehicular Auto Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred in Freeport on Wednesday, January 01, 2014 at 1:10 am.
 
According to detectives, a male driver, 73 was driving his 2013 Hyundai west on Atlantic Avenue when he struck a male pedestrian not yet identified that was crossing from north to south. The male victim suffered severe head trauma and was transported to South Nassau Community Hospital for treatment. The victim was pronounced at 3:33 am by a staff physician.
 
Detectives report no apparent criminality with the accident at this time. The vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection and brake inspection. The Investigation is ongoing.
