The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for all of Long Island from Thursday at 6 p.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, with total accumulations reaching 8 to 10 inches.
Snow will begin falling lightly on Wednesday night and carry on into Thursday, but only up to one inch of accumulation is expected. The worst of the storm will hit Thursday evening, as temperatures will drop to the mid teens and 7 to 9 inches of snow is expected to fall overnight into the morning, which will present hazardous driving conditions. Travelers should be cautious, as winds are forecasted to gust at up to 45 miles per hour, with wind chills nearing 10 degrees below zero and visibility reduced to a quarter of a mile or less. The snow will end by Friday afternoon, but the chill will last into the evening with single-digit temperatures Friday night.
The snow may linger, as temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing until Sunday, when the forecast calls for highs in the 40s and rain.
A coastal flood advisory is also in effect Thursday morning until 1 p.m., and a coastal flood watch is in effect for the entire Island until further notice.
