After Drones Fly Near East End Airport, Suffolk Sheriff, County Executive to Warn of Dangers, Penalties of Flying Drones in Restricted Airspaces

On Friday, January 3 at 11am, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr., County Executive Ed Romaine, will be joined by other law enforcement and FAA representatives, to address the security and safety concerns over recent unauthorized drone activity near Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach. 
 
In addition to posing an extreme safety risk to airport operations, the airspace is under FAA regulations and the unauthorized use of drones can result in criminal charges. Sheriff Toulon and officials will outline the serious dangers posed by flying drones in restricted areas, the civil and criminal penalties for violations, and new security technologies being deployed to detect and deter such activity.
