At Least 10 People Shot by Multiple Gunman Outside Queens Nightclub
Four gunmen opened fire on a group of people in front of a Queens nightclub on Wednesday evening, hitting at least 10, according to the New York City Police Department.
During a press briefing Thursday morning, police officials confirmed that the shooting at the Amazura nightclub on 144th Street in Jamaica resulted in the wounding of six females and four males. Authorities are investigating whether or not the incident was related to gang activity, but have ruled out it being related in any way to terrorism.
The four suspects are said to be in their late-teens to early 20s, and fired approximately 30 shots in total into a crowd of about 15 people waiting outside the club to get in, as the venue was currently filled to capacity.
Police report receiving multiple 911 calls just after 11 p.m. Wednesday regarding the shootings; inside the club at the time was an event attending by 90 people in honor of a 16-year-old who had been killed as a result of gun violence.
No arrests have be made yet, according to Philip Rivera, the NYPD's chief of transportation.
"There's zero tolerance for these senseless shootings," he said at Thursday's press briefing. "These horrible acts of violence on our streets, and those responsible for this crime, will be apprehended and brought to justice."
