AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Plans to Construct Assisted Living Facility in Place of East Islip Lanes Bowling Alley

A plan is in place to convert the East Islip Lanes Bowling Alley into an assisted living facility developed by Benchmark Senior Living. The Islip Town Planning Board approved the plan for the 4.3 acre property during the December 6, 2023 planning meeting.

 

At the meeting a representative for the developer said that surrounding businesses would be able to use up to 30 parking stalls in their parking lot and that plans exceed required parking. Also, a traffic study showed that there would be less traffic than the existing use as a bowling alley with the main entrance off of Montauk Highway. The property at 117 East Main Street (Montauk Highway) is on the corner of Greenwood Avenue next door to the U.S. Post Office.
