Bagel Eating Contest Takes Centerstage at BagelFest Winter Games BKLYN 2023
Get ready, New York! Celebrate National Bagel Day at BagelFests’ BKLYN Winter Games 2023 – where eating is a competitive sport and noshing is a group activity. Bagels have been popular in New York for over a century, with billions of bagels consumed by millions of New Yorkers - yet no one has ever attempted to eat as many bagels as will be consumed at the Bagel Eating Contest at the BagelFest Winter Games, taking place at City Point in Downtown Brooklyn on January 15th, National Bagel Day from 9:30am to 2pm.
“As far as we are concerned, National Bagel Day is the first major holiday in January and it's the perfect day to host a Bagel Eating Contest and other Winter Games,” says BagelFest founder San Silverman. “One bagel-lover will rise above the masses to prove their undying love for the heavenly, chewy masterpiece that is the bagel. The individual who stretches their stomach to the absolute limit will be crowned the Bagel Champion of New York.”
A belly full of bread isn’t the only dough the Bagel Eating Champion will walk away with. A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the winner, plus $250 to the runner up. The pot will be sweetened - quite literally - with a Brooklyn Deluxe package valued at $200 from the iconic Bagel Boss.
“Just when you thought you couldn't possibly eat a single crumb more, we're going to send you home with a dozen of some of the finest authentic, hand-rolled bagels to ever grace New York,” said Bagel Boss CEO Andrew Hazen. “Not to mention our signature black and white cookies, cream cheese, and lox to round out the ultimate prize for the Bagel Eating Champs.”
Beyond the marquee Bagel Eating Contest, the BagelFest Winter Games will feature a Bagel Rolling contest, Team Bagel Relay, Bagel Flight Brunch, and Mimosa Bar. Activities are open to ticketed attendees, and free to compete in with the purchase of a ticket.
Tickets include a carefully curated Bagel Flight inspired by the color of the Olympic Rings, featuring fan favorites like “Lox to Love”, “The Mashup”, “The Classic”, “The Egg-xcellent” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow Bagel.”
Tickets are $39 and include the Bagel Flight of 5 unique mini-bagel sandwiches plus 1 mimosa. Tickets can be purchased on the BagelFest website.
Registration Required for the optional competitive events, also through the BagelFest website. Schedule of events to be posted.
