New Cassel Man in Custody After Allegedly Assaulting His Wife in Front of Their 10-Year-Old Child

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a New Cassel man for an assault that occurred on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 9:10 p.m. in New Cassel.
 
According to detectives, third precinct officers responded for a domestic disturbance at a 3rd Street residence. Upon arrival, officers encountered a female victim who informed them that she had gotten into a verbal argument with her husband, Joel Campbell, 35. The verbal argument escalated and the victim was thrown on a table. She got up and the defendant pulled her hair, threw her to the ground and placed his hands around her neck while she was on the ground. The victim refused medical attention. 
 
A 10-year-old juvenile was present for the attack, but was not injured. Two officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest, as the defendant was violent and combative while resisting arrest. 
 
The defendant Joel Campbell is charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, two counts of Assault 2nd degree, Assault 3rd degree, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree, and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Monday, January 6, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
