After Grey Horse Tavern in Bayport announced it was closing its doors last year it didn’t take long before someone else snatched up the opportunity to own this 19th century landmark on the South Shore of Long Island.

The place probably couldn’t be in better hands as the restaurateur behind some popular local joints teamed up with the co-founder of one of Long Island’s first - and possibly most successful - craft brewery. Justin Tempelman, of JT Cafe, Jt Hideaway and JT on the Bay fame, teamed up with Peter Cotter from Blue Point Brewing Company to open what they are calling a casual farmhouse dining spot that offers traditional dishes, beer and cocktails. And for those who remember Grey Horse Tavern for hosting live music, that has not been left out of the mix either.

A renovation and a new menu later and JT’s Farmhouse is open for business.

The menu reflects the farmhouse chic theme of the newly renovated interior starting off with deviled eggs ($5) featuring cage free egg, dill, grain mustard and candied bacon. You can also find a cast iron spinach artichoke fondue ($12) served with pretzel pieces and a lump crab cake ($15) with arugula, apple, red onion salad, citrus and whole grain vinaigrette. For diner they have butcher meatballs with spicy pork sauce ($13), beer can mussels ($15) with melted leeks, tomato, house fennel sausage, Blue Point Toasted Lager (of course) and garlic toast. Check out the full menu here.
