Authorities report that two deceased individuals were discovered within the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue airplane on Tuesday that had landed in Florida following a flight that had departed from New York's John F. Kennedy airport.

The grim find took place at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport during routine post-flight maintenance inspections on Flight 1801 at approximately 11 p.m., according to a spokesperson representing JetBlue.

The identities of the two deceased individuals are being withheld pending notification of next of kin; police are investigating their deaths, as well as how they managed to get onto the runway at JFK and stow away aboard the aircraft.

“This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to support their efforts to understand how this occurred,” the JetBlue spokesperson said.
