First Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Uniondale man for Attempted Murder that occurred on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 9:30 pm in Uniondale.

According to detectives, defendant Milton Mendez, 45, was involved in an argument with a female victim, 39.  The argument escalated and the defendant grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed the victim multiple times in the face and on her hands.  The victim suffered multiple lacerations and lost a significant amount of blood.

A second female victim, 9, witnessed the argument and attempted to stop the attack.  Mendez grabbed her around the neck and applied pressure, making it difficult for her to breathe.  Mendez proceeded to punch the 9-year-old on the right side of her head, causing her pain and swelling.  The 9-year-old victim continued to try and get the knife away from the defendant as he cut both of her hands, causing lacerations.  The 9-year-old victim and a 3rd female, 17, exited the home and called 911.

Officers responded and heard the 39-year-old female victim who was screaming for help inside the home.  Officers observed Mendez exit the kitchen and entered a hallway holding a knife covered in blood.  Officers gave verbal commands for Mendez to drop the knife but he refused to comply.  As he approached, officers were able to disarm him.  Officers were eventually able to subdue Mendez and placed him under arrest.

Both victims were transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment and are in stable condition.
