Weather Alert

ELEVATED RISK OF FIRE SPREAD Increasing northwest winds and drying low levels will create conditions more conducive for fire spread today into early this evening. Relative humidity is expected to decrease to near 25 to 30 percent this afternoon into early this evening, while wind gusts increase to 35 to 45 mph. An isolated gust to 50 mph will be possible. These conditions would likely aid fire spread if ignition occurs. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. The annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention, please visit the New York Department of Environmental Conservation website at http://dec.ny.gov/environmental- protection/wildfires. This forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials. Calverton, NY - January 10, 2017 - Make a resolution to get your male dog or cat neutered during Kent Animal Shelter's $20 "Happy Neuter Year" campaign throughout January.

“Neutering male pets is a simple surgery that reduces unwanted behaviors, like roaming, fighting, and urine marking territories,” says Pamela Green, Executive Director of Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. “It also guarantees your dog or cat never fathers a litter of puppies or kittens.”

Neutering your male dog or cat will also prevent unwanted litters and reduce homeless pet populations. Spaying and neutering is one of the most effective ways to reduce the homeless pet population and is safe for puppies and kittens as young as eight to 10 weeks old, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Sponsored by PetSmart Charities®, Kent’s “Happy Neuter Year” campaign will provide $20 neuter surgeries for male dogs and cats during the month of January. This special $20 rate is even less than Kent’s normal low-cost price and is available to all residents of Long Island, New York. Pet parents who wish to take advantage of this offer must mention the “Happy Neuter Year” campaign when they schedule their appointment. This campaign is based on availability, appointments are limited.

Please call 631-727-7797 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
