Photos: Erosion Destroys Gilgo Beach, Flooding on Long Island’s Shores After Tuesday Night Storm

After a powerful storm moved across the Northeast on Tuesday, Long Island got hit with high winds and rain that caused power outages and flooding from shore to shore. PSEG Long Island reported that by Wednesday afternoon it had restored power to over 26,100 customers.

Sadly, some of the damage will linger with us much longer as beach erosion took out some of the most vulnerable coastlines of Long Island, especially on the South Shore where observers reported that much or all of the beach has been washed away at Gilgo Beach.
