While the pandemic has made our restaurant experiences a bit more clinical and sparse with social distancing and limited seating, foodies are still enjoying new restaurants that buck the trend and open in this strange season.
Spoonsticks, which opened in late last year, fills a niche in the area, serving Korean food and ramen. (Some claim you can’t get Korean food of the quality that Spoonsticks serves unless you travel to Queens.)
The menu features Beef Bulgogi, marinated sliced rib eye, bulgogi sauce, ($24), Kimchi Fried Rice, white rice, kimchi, onion, smoky bacon,sunny-side-up egg, ($16), and Bulgogi Japchae, stir fried glass noodles (cellophane noodles), beef bulgogi, vegetables, bulgogi sauce ($18).
On Yelp, John G, from Rockville Centre, raved about the food and the service.
“My wife and I had an amazing date night at Spoonsticks the other evening,” he wrote. “Only 3 days open and we had one of the greatest dining experiences all year. I am impartial to Korean and their JabChai was the best I ever had. Service was excellent and the chef even made us a special dish to go with the awesome Bulgogi.”
Brandon P. from San Francisco, CA, said that Spoonsticks delivers what Long Island needs in this style of food.
“This place brings two things that Long Island dining is, largely, sorely missing, quality Korean cuisine and top notch ramen,” he wrote. “I have only been once so far but it was really something. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and it was delicious but also easily the spiciest ramen I have ever had, the shredded beef in it was incredible [sic] tender and flavorful with a perfect amount of char.”
