83 Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Injured in Bay Shore Motor Vehicle Crash

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that fatally injured a pedestrian in Bay Shore on Wednesday, January 11.
 
Mario Rojas was walking eastbound across Fifth Avenue, approximately 50 feet north of Dalton Road, when he was struck by a northbound 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350 at approximately 5:25 p.m.
 
Rojas, 83, of Bay Shore was transported via Brentwood Legion Ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries; he later passed away. 
 
The driver of the Mercedes, Helen Kaimis, 62, of Dix Hills, was not injured.
 
The Mercedes was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
