The Fourth Squad reports the arrest two Freeport men for a robbery that occurred on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 5:30 a.m. in North Long Beach.

According to detectives, a male and female victim invited two men to their motel room. Shortly after arriving, defendant Ishmel Owens, 32, of 45 Broadway, began punching the male victim in the chest while he was laying down in the rooms bed. Simultaneously, defendant Kylil Freeman, 28, of 125 South Bayview Avenue, grabbed the female victim and put her in a chokehold.

Defendant Owens then stated to the male victim that he had to go with them to an ATM and withdraw all of his money or they would kill the female victim. The male victim complied with the defendants and got into a Red Kia Forte with them. They drove him to a local 7-11 and he proceeded to the back of the store towards the ATM.

At this point he called 911 and Fourth Precinct patrol units responded and arrested the two defendants without further incident. During the search of the defendants’ officers located a white powdery substance in defendant Owens’s pocket.

Defendant Ishmel Owens is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 2nd degree, two counts of Attempted Robbery 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th degree, Menacing 3rd degree, Assault 3rd degree, and Unlawful imprisonment 2nd degree.
