Farmingdale, NY - January 13, 2015 - On January 3, 2015 at about 6:35 PM, the New York State Police in Farmingdale received an emergency call from a woman screaming hysterically. State Police personnel were able to gather that she was in the area of exit 25 (Newbridge Road) on the Southern State Parkway, but they could not get any other information from the woman. Troopers were dispatched to the call and quickly responded to find a woman in a Buick Century parked on the right shoulder near exit 25 on the Southern State Parkway.

Trooper Christopher Nolan from the Farmingdale Barracks, responded and was met by a 31 year-old woman clutching her 6 year-old son, stating he could not speak or breathe.  Trooper Nolan quickly realized the child had a blocked airway and positioned the boy on his back.  He then tilted the child’s head up to open the airway.  Once on his back, with an open airway, the boy began to breathe. The child then started vomiting, requiring Trooper Nolan to work to keep his airway clear from obstruction. Tpr. Nolan kept his airway open until an ambulance from North Bellmore EMS arrived and transported the boy and his mother to Nassau University Medical Center.

The woman explained that her son had been fighting a serious case of the flu and had developed a fever of 107 degrees. He had a seizure and stopped breathing just prior to her calling 911. The boy was treated for several days before being sent home and is expected to make a full recovery.
