AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Opened late last year, The Theo Thai Bistro has been serving up Thai and Vietnamese food to some rave reviews online.

 

“Very delicious authentic Thai food and very friendly staff,” wrote Ben P., of Plainview, on Yelp.

 

The menu consists of everything you’d expect. Appetizers feature Thai Spring Rolls, a crispy roll stuffed with vermicelli, cabbage, carrot, celery, served with sweet chili sauce ($7), Chive Pancake with soy dipping sauce ($8), Fish Cake of curried fish cake served with sweet chili sauce, cucumber and crushed peanut ($8), among others.

Soup choices include Tom Yum Soup with chicken or shrimp with Galangal, lemon grass, lime leaves, mushrooms and chili paste ($6) and Tom Kha Soup  with chicken or shrimp with galangal, lemon grass, lime leaves, mushroom in coconut milk ($6).

Main courses feature Pad Roasted Cashew Nuts, with sautéed roasted cashew nuts with onions, carrot, bell peppers, pineapple, celery in Thai chili paste ($12.95),  Pad Pak with  sautéed cabbage, carrot, Chinese broccoli, mushroom, baby corn, broccoli with Thai style garlic sauce ($12.95), and their Rama Dish, with sautéed broccoli with Thai style garlic sauce ($12.95).

Noodle and fried rice dishes are many with Authentic Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, a spicy pan fried flat rice noodles sautéed in spicy basil sauce with basil, bell pepper and onion, and carrot ($12.95), Thai Fried Rice, which is traditional Thai fried rice with egg, broccoli, scallion, onion, and tomato ($12.95), and Pineapple Fried Rice, consisting of fried rice with pineapples, curry powder, onion, scallion, raisin, egg, and cashew nut ($12.95).

 

Caroline N., from Queens, said, “this was the best place I tried for Vietnamese food in LI [sic] and the Thai food was so delicious.”
