According to our survey, on average newlyweds expect $122.50 in wedding gifts, with couples in New York expecting the highest amount ($204.60), followed by those in Connecticut ($202.40) and Nebraska ($195). Interestingly, guest spending expectations fall short of the bride and groom's anticipated gift value.
The typical guest expects to spend around $113.80 on a wedding gift, with nearly half (47%) planning to spend less than $100. However, there is a noticeable gender difference: men are willing to spend an average of $136.60, while women are typically budgeting $91.70.
Nearly a quarter (23%) of Americans think guests should either bring a gift to the wedding or send one afterward, reflecting the importance of gift-giving in wedding celebrations.
Here are some additional findings:
- 51% of U.S. brides believe guests should dress appropriately for the dress code if specified and over a third (34%) feel guests should avoid upstaging the couple’s outfits.
- Nearly two in five newlyweds (39%) managed to stay within budget, while 25% exceeded their ideal wedding day spending target.
- The average wedding budget for U.S. couples is $7,178, with 57% aiming to stay under $10,000. However, couples in New York spend the most, with an average budget of $12,387.90.
