AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

All 15 movie scores from the recently-announced Oscar Shortlist will be featured this Thursday on Tom Needham’s ‘Sounds of Film.’

Stony Brook, NY - January 16, 2019 - Tom Needham’s ‘The Sounds of Film’ will feature all of the scores recently announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Oscar Shortlist this Thursday at 6 pm on WUSB. This exclusive 2-hour special will be the area’s only radio show featuring all of the film scores by Carter Burwell, Justin Hurwitz, Alexandre Desplat, and the other recognized composers.
 
This year’s movie scores on the Oscar Shortlist include a wide variety of musical styles.  The list includes Justin Hurwitz’s ‘First Man,’ Alexandre Desplat’s ‘Isle of Dogs,’ Marc Shaiman’s ‘Mary Poppins Returns,’ Ludwig Goransson’s ‘Black Panther,’ Marco Beltrami’s ‘A Quiet Place,’ Terence Blanchard’s ‘BlacKkKlansman,’ Nicholas Britell’s ‘VICE,’ Alan Silvestri’s ‘Ready Player One,’ Nicholas Britell’s ‘If Beale Street Could Talk,’ James Newton Howard’s ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grinderwald,’ Christopher Willis’ ‘The Death of Stalin,’ Brian Tyler’s ‘Crazy Rich Asians,’ Alan Silvestri’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ and Brian Salisbury and Geoff’s ‘Annihilation.’
 
The official nominations for Best Original Score will be announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on January 22, 2019.
