Regular Gas Station Customer Discovered to Be Gas Station Burglar, Arrest Made

Lynbrook, NY - January 17, 2017 - Fifth Squad detectives report the arrest of a Lynbrook man for a Burglary that occurred on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 6:10 am in Lynbrook.

According to detectives, Joseph Monaco, 30, of Lynbrook, pried open the front door lock of the BP Gas Station mart, 440 Sunrise Highway, entered the store, removed $30.00 worth of cigarettes, $150.00 worth of New York State Lottery scratch-off tickets and fled the scene.

After discovering the damage to the door as well as the missing property the owner reviewed the stores surveillance video and recognized the person responsible to be Monaco, who is a regular customer.

On Monday, January 16, 2017, detectives responded to Monaco’s residence where he was placed under arrest without incident.

The defendant is charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 1/17/2017.
