The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles today announced it is renovating its Hauppauge office, with construction beginning January 27 and continuing until mid-spring. The last day of typical office operations at that location will be on January 24.
Throughout the renovation, a small by-reservation-only processing center will remain open at the existing office at 250 Veterans Memorial Hwy. Note that permit testing will not be offered at this site.
During construction, the DMV is encouraging customers to visit our website to complete transactions online whenever possible. Customers can also schedule a reservation at a nearby location, including in Huntington, Medford, Riverhead, Massapequa and Bethpage. DMV will be increasing its capacity to serve more customers at these offices.
“The renovated space will help us deliver the best possible customer experience at this location and will complement the upgrades that we are working on as part of our multi-year technology system modernization,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder. “When we fully re-open the office this spring, our customers will find a more streamlined layout, upgraded seating and permit testing facilities, and an altogether more welcoming space to visit.”
In addition to the Hauppauge office renovation, DMV also recently relocated its Harlem and White Plains district offices. However, new office space is just one way DMV is improving services for New Yorkers.
Providing an exceptional customer experience whether in person, online, or over the phone is one of DMV’s top priorities and is the driving force behind the agency’s ongoing modernization plan. As part of that plan, DMV is focused on simplifying processes for customers and employees; providing more ways for customers to interact with DMV; and leveraging technology to operate more efficiently.
To date, the DMV has launched a redesigned website and improved the personalized online customer portal, added new online transactions, implemented a DMV Mobile Unit to better meet the needs of underserved New Yorkers, expanded online live chat options, introduced online pre-screening for some of the most complicated transactions, made it easier to access DMV records, and much more. DMV will continue to build on these improvements over the next four years.
