Shirley, NY - January 18, 2016 - On Monday, January 11, the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library held the grand opening of its Community Storybook Forest, a magical woodland decorated with white lights located on the library’s main floor. Each tree is themed and has been decorated by various school and community groups based on a cherished children's book such as The Lorax, The Three Little Pigs, Where the Wild Things Are, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and more. The grand opening celebration also featured special guest readers from the William Floyd High School Key Club, who spent part of the evening working with children to create special arts and crafts based on these literary classics.
Groups that sponsored trees included the William Floyd High School Key Club, Kiwanis Club of the Mastics, John S. Hobart Elementary School PTO, Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary PTO, Tangier Smith Elementary PTO and various departments within the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library. The Community Storybook Forest is open for children to enjoy through the end of January. Copies of the themed books are available to check out.
