After Relish in Hauppauge closed, a note on the door said for patrons to look for a new restaurant opening in its place.

Now that promise has been fulfilled and Gusto Osteria Wine Bar has opened its doors at 551 Hauppauge Road. With a new interior design and new menu, reviewers are saying that Gusto is good.

They promise an elegant dining experience with a wide selection of wine.

The antipasti menu starts with a Parmigiana di Zucchine, breaded zucchine, salsa pomodoro, and mozzarella and a Burrata with heirloom tomatoes, olive oil, and balsamic. They have a whole selection of cured meats and cheeses or order the Italian board (a chef selection of Italian cured meats and cheeses with fig jam, olives, fruits and nuts) or the Mixed Cheese Board (six artisanal cheeses with fruit, nuts and olives).

The pasts menu includes five varieties of pasta dishes each with an individual flair. The Fettuccine is a chianti-stained pasta with sausage, mushrooms, and salsa di pomodoro. The Gnocchi has bufala mozzarella, salsa di pomodoro and gratinati. And the Spaghetti comes with mussels and clams flavored with black garlic and lemon zest.

Entrees include Lupo di Mare, a Mediterranean sea bream, clams, and mussels in light tomato broth and fregola; Fiorentina, a 24 oz 21-day dry aged porterhouse, salsa verde, and fried leeks; and Costata, a Berkshire pork chop with mashed potato, asparagi, and blueberry molasses.

On Yelp, Laura M, from Hauppauge, gave it five stars.

“I tried Gusto's after being a frequent customer at the prior establishment,” she wrote. “I have to say the new decor is quite refreshing. The selection of cheese and meats is ON POINT…  Today's visit was impressive with the highlight being the seafood salad. It was amazingly fresh.”
