Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a man was arraigned on murder and weapons charges for the stabbing death of his mother at her Massapequa apartment on Christmas Eve.
Jeremy Emmanuel Lopez Ramirez, 27, was arraigned today before Judge Robert McDonald on charges of Murder in the Second Degree (an A-I felony) and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (a D felony). The defendant pleaded not guilty and was remanded. He is due back in court on February 19, 2025. If convicted, the defendant faces up to 32 years to life in prison.
“The holiday season is a time for families to come together, but this defendant’s alleged actions tore his family apart when he fatally plunged a knife directly into his mother’s heart on Christmas Eve,” said DA Donnelly. “A grief-stricken family was left to spend their Christmas mourning the senseless and tragic loss of their mother, taken from them by the hands of their own blood, according to the charges. Our thoughts are with Josefina’s family, friends, and all who loved her as we prosecute this devastating crime.”
DA Donnelly said that on December 24, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., 57-year-old Josefina Ramirez Montero, was inside her upstairs apartment at 5714 Old Sunrise Highway in Massapequa when her youngest son, defendant Jeremy Emmanuel Lopez Ramirez, left to go to a nearby laundromat.
Upon his return, the defendant allegedly began attacking his mother with a six-inch knife, puncturing her four times, including a stab wound to the heart. The defendant then left the apartment and allegedly attempted to bury the knife in the ground outside the building.
Ramirez Montero was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Tracy Keeton of the Homicide Bureau under the supervision of Bureau Chief Jared Rosenblatt and under the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for the Litigation Division Kevin Higgins. The defendant is represented by Nicole Guliano, Esq.
The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
