Long Island, NY - January 22, 2016 - Snow, coastal flooding, and high winds are expected on Saturday as Winter Storm Jonas impacts the East Coast. Long Island postal officials are announcing collection schedules will be adjusted on Saturday with mail being collected from the blue street boxes at 1 p.m. Post Offices are expected to be open for business on Saturday and letter carriers will be attempting mail delivery in neighborhoods where safe to do so.
Mounds of snow and patches of ice in front of mailboxes create havoc for carriers trying to safely deliver the mail. Postmasters are asking residents throughout Long Island to keep walkways, sidewalks, and approaches to mailboxes clear from snow and ice so letter carriers can provide safe and timely mail delivery. Customers receiving curbside delivery should also ensure clear access to their mailboxes for letter carriers who deliver from the street. Friends and neighbors will also benefit from clear sidewalks and walkways.
